Have you ever seen a “Wasp Killer? It is HUGE! You have to check this video out! You will NEVER guess which bug wins the fight, make sure you watch the ENTIRE video (it does not end when the paper drops, keep watching. I know it is 8 mins and 10 secs but it is well worth it!! The commentary is pretty funny, they were not sure if the sound was recorded, make sure to listen with the sound on. One thing to note is the squares on the white sheet of paper measure1/4″ x 1/4″ so you can see how huge the “Wasp Killer” is. This was shot with a Kodak Z712 IS camera by 3 guys on the floor of their welding and fabrication shop in FL. They are a trip!

Question by tmoney1979: Do “Red Velvet Ants” pose a threat to my toddlers?
I recently spotted a red and black insect that I have never seen before. When researching it on the internet I found out that they are actually a wasp, that is commonly called a “Red Velvet Ant”.

I read that they can sting and it is very painful, but they are very rarely “Cow killers” as commonly referred to.

My concern is for my two young children of 3 years and 18 months. We play out in our yard quite often and I was wondering if they pose a threat to them. If they were to be stung would it just hurt really bad like any other wasp sting or would it be harmful to them?

I am not usually someone that likes to use insecticides or bug sprays, unless absolutely neccessary. And if they are posing a threat to my children, then this makes it neccessary in my mind.

Well, I’d certainly let the kids know that they can’t pick them up. My baby boy learned that the hard way when he was about five. (He’s 32 now). The sting hurt like heck but they are no more toxic than any other wasp.

I live in the desert and I made a big deal out of letting my boys know what critters they could touch and what critters to leave alone. I’m with you on the spraying of poisons. They get the bad guys (scorpions and black widows, but they get the good guys too–bees and ladybugs and some lizards.

lisbeth salander pulled what looked to be a white piece of paper out from under her upper lip twice, once at the diner when she told her lawyer to sale her fathers belongings and once when she entered the brick yard at the very end of the movie.
