Can ants destroy a tree?

i have a large 40 year old hardwood tree on the side of my house. It looks very healthy. Recently I have notice a pile of what looks like sawdust at the base of tree. About 10 feet higher at that point is where a 10 in limb was sawed off many years ago. The wound is completely healed. I’ve seen ant activity–big black ones-carpenter ant, I suspect..but can’t tell if they are just crawling around outside or are inside the tree too. Opinions? Advice?

i found this large carpenter ant in a log all by it self with a big abdomen is this a queen ant some1 help me?
